Hoover Dam – a Great AccomplishmentYou may have heard of the Hoover Dam or may have not. If you were playing a game of trivia, would you able to answer any trivia questions regarding this world-famous dam?
The first thing that you should know about this dam is its location and its purpose. The Dam is located on the border of Mohave, County Arizona and Clark County, Nevada. It was built to hold the Colorado River in the Black Canyon. The Hoover Dam creates Lake Mead.
The second thing that you should learn is about the history of this structure. This amazing feat of engineering came at a high cost. During construction more than one hundred workers lost their lives. Work began on this project in 1931. The company responsible for its construction was Six Companies. Although this organization had to deal with various problems and issues a lack of nearby facilities for workers and extreme heat, it was able to complete the dam two years ahead of schedule. The dam was turned over to the Federal Government in 1936.
The complete structure cost over forty-nine million to build. The finished dam stands 726.4 feet high and is 1,244 feet in length. The enormous base is 660 feet, whereby its crest width is 45 feet. This amazing dam generates 4.2 billion KWh every year.
One of the strangest facts about this dam relates to the deaths. The first person whose death is attributed to the dam was J. G. Tirney. He was involved in choosing a location for the dam. The last death to be recorded during construction is that of his son, Patrick W. Tierny. Patrick dies thirteen years to the day after his father.

It is often stated that a person’s greatest love will always be his or her mother. A mother’s love is a true definition of unconditional love. It is a feeling that leaves one contented and satisfied to know that that person will always be there for you no matter what. Unconditional love and friendship knows no judgment or condemnation, instead it is built by an understanding heart, a listening ear and a stream of ever flowing love and care. The beauty of it all is that unconditional love and friendship is given without conditions, restrictions and without expecting anything in return. Unconditional love and friendship is not common, neither is it easy to find, but once gotten, it leaves an indelible mark in our hearts.
